BJP leader Ram Madhav on Friday said Nalanda University Chancellor George Yeo's complaint that he was not consulted while forming a new governing body was "strange".
Yeo resigned from his post on Friday expressing his unhappiness over the union government's decision to dissolve the Nalanda Mentors Group (NMG) and form a new governing body without his knowledge.
"President (Pranab Mukherjee) in his capacity as visitor constituted Governing Board now with eminent people. Yeo's complaint that he was not consulted is strange," Madhav tweeted.
The BJP General Secretary accused Yeo of having transformed the Mentors Group into a Governing Board, which was constituted for a one-year tenure.
"Outgoing Governing Board of Nalanda University was originally called Mentors Group with 1 year tenure, but transformed itself into Governing Board," Madhav said in another tweet.
He said Yeo resigned when the President as visitor decided to constitute the first ever Governing Board.
Earlier, Yeo said in a statement that the order dissolving the Governing Board and creating a new one came as a complete surprise to him and to most others.
He said he was neither involved nor consulted before the decision was taken.
A former Foreign Minister of Singapore, Yeo replaced Nobel laureate Amartya Sen as Chancellor of the University last year.
