It was always a given that most of the 24 borrowers of National Spot Exchange Ltd had strong political connections and local support. What came as surprise to the investors and brokers who are trying to recover their hard-earned money was that one of them actually has criminal antecedents. A borrower from a northern state is said to have been involved in a bank robbery case a couple of decades ago. Local legend has it that this person shot dead two robbers who "accidentally" entered his house with the booty after looting a bank. The borrower was also shot at but escaped with wounds. Since then he has never looked back.
