Letters: Reducing NPAs II

It is not certain as to what the prime minister has in mind when it comes to the performance review he plans to conduct of his ministerial colleagues. On the face of it, each colleague will now send in his achievements and/or explanations for the lack of it — the power ministry will most certainly blame the state governments for the lack of progress on meeting capacity addition targets.

But who is to take the blame for the bigger decisions? The government has failed miserably on the inflation front, but Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar alone cannot be blamed for that since inflation control is something the entire government has to be focused on. And who took the decision to announce the decision to form a separate state of Telangana and then, a few days later, to try and find ways out of this commitment? Most such reviews are a farce and the exercises go along predicted lines.
