The media has to share a very large part of the blame over the Delhi Metro. One bridge has collapsed due to a structural flaw and there have been some accidents. But accidents happen in every big project, indeed people die every day while crossing the road. Let us not be so hasty and rush to label every minor crack in a pillar as a sign that it is about to collapse. The Delhi Metro, and the Delhi government, or whoever is in charge of the project, would do well to hire a well-recognised consultant, who has nothing to do with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and get the firm to do an independent evaluation of every structure. This may add to the costs, but it needs to be done to restore the faith of lakhs of users and the millions that pass beneath various metro bridges every day.
