Dynastic politics has only advantages for the descendants of political leaders but as far as their staff is concerned it can cause some confusion. Agatha Sangma, the new minister of state for rural development, for instance, has inherited not only daddy P A Sangma’s political clout but also his office and residence . So getting to speak to her should have been easier. But ask for Ms Sangma and there is confusion among the staff, who mistake the daughter for the father and tell you that senior Sangma is fast asleep and one should call later, whereas the daughter would be busy attending a session in Parliament or probably leading a workshop on drinking water. When you tell them that you want the daughter not the father, they give you another number, of a member of her office.
