Listing the achievements of the Gujarat government's "Gatisheel Gujarat" (Progressive Gujarat) campaign, spokesperson Nitin Patel was asked about the law and order situation, especially in the light of incidents of communal violence over the past 10 days. Patel tactfully sought to duck the issue but ended up saying "Law and order was not part of the 'Gatisheel Gujarat' campaign". The statement is interesting given that the campaign, which sets targets for the first 100 days of the Anandiben's Patel's new government, included faster implementation of people-oriented welfare programmes.
