As the live coverage of the Republic Day parade played on television yesterday, Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar engaged his followers on Twitter with interesting trivia, including a photograph from the 1973 parade showing the lone Doordarshan (DD) camera person covering the event, against 26 on India's 66th Republic Day.
Another tweet paid homage to his Bengali roots: "Lt Gen Subroto Mitra-led Republic Day parade this year, salutes Pranab-babu." DD has had more than its share of public gaffes of late, and Sircar was determined to take the opportunity to underscore the good work on the day by retweeting several compliments that DD's coverage and commentary received.
Another retweet that caught the eye was a photograph from the 1963 parade: "IndiaHistorypic: 1963: RSS participates in Republic Day parade, invited by PM Jawaharlal Nehru". "Very interesting!" tweeted Sircar.
