How does the insurer gauge if the stolen car belongs to the owner?
Insurers ask for original keys as proof in order to check that the vehicle owner wasn’t negligent in maintaining the security of the vehicle. Duplicate keys (made by local locksmiths) won’t be accepted.

How to make claim for a stolen vehicle if the keys are lost?
A vehicle owner is not be paid the claim in the absence of original keys, unless a proof of that is submitted. The owner needs to inform the insurer that the vehicle keys were lost or misplaced and submit a proof, such as a letter showing he/she has applied for a new set of keys with the manufacturer.
