GoM on corruption to submit report soon: V Narayanasamy

Amendment to the Prevention of Corruption Bill will be taken up in Parliament., says the minister

The Group of Ministers (GoM) on corruption has finalised its report and it will soon be submitted to the government, Union Minister V Narayanasamy said today.

"We have finalised the report. We are going to submit (it). We prepared three reports. Two interim reports have been submitted already which have been accepted by the government," he said during a CII event on 'Governance: Moral Leadership, Integrity and Transparency'.

He said as far as corruption is concerned, it will definitely hamper development programmes and the government is taking several steps to curb it.

"Government is taking steps for the purpose of having open and transparent administration and several measures have been taken. Some of them have been implemented and some of them are in the pipeline and also monitoring the several systems," he said.

India has taken several steps including joining the United Nations convention against corruption and bringing several legislations for the purpose of curbing corruption, he said.

He said the government has implemented the e-governance programme in a big way.

"Through e-governance programme everything will be put on the website, people will have access to it. Therefore, everybody who has a doubt about the system, they can question it.

"We would like to have the e-governance programme very effectively done, not only at the central but also at the state level," he said.

The minister also said that the amendment to the Prevention of Corruption Bill will be taken up in Parliament.

On the role of media, Narayanasamy said self-regulation has been suggested to the media but that has not been strictly followed.

"Media has to follow the regulation otherwise some kind of regulation is to be brought by the government. It's a question of debate and ultimately we have to take a call on that," he said.

He also said that there is a need for self introspection for moral leadership, integrity and transparency in the system.
