Pakistan Army chief Gen Raheel Sharif today backed the government's efforts to engage militants in a peace process but emphasised that terror attacks would not be tolerated.

Sharif made the remarks during his first visit to the Corps Headquarters here after assuming the office of army chief.

He "reiterated full support to the government-led ongoing peace process", according to a military statement. "He, however, emphasised that terrorist attacks will not be tolerated and will be responded effectively," it said.
