CPI(M) general secretary also attacked the BJP on Kashmir issue

Hitting out at the Centre, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Monday said the government "under the control of the RSS is intensifying its Hindutva agenda".

Inaugurating the year-long celebrations of October Revolution here, he said, "The situation has gone to an extent that the RSS is now issuing certificates of patriotism. They are propagating that Hindutva equates to Indian nationalism."

"The government under the control of the RSS is intensifying its Hindutva agenda," Yechury added.

Attacking the BJP-led NDA government on the Kashmir issue, the CPI(M) leader alleged that efforts were on to "aggravate the situation with an eye on next year's Uttar Pradesh Assembly election".

Stating that his party was opposed to 'triple talaq', he alleged that the Centre had "clubbed the matter" with Uniform Civil Code (UCC) with an "ulterior" motive, adding that a unilateral imposition of UCC would divide the society.

Referring to the problems faced by countries following capitalism, Yechury said, "A socialist political alternative is the only answer to capitalism and these crises."

"The CPI-M will redouble its resolve to strengthen the socialist political alternative to capitalism. It is the only answer to the crisis the country is facing," he added.

Yechury claimed that the argument often put forward by the supporters of capitalism that it was the "final stage of human development" had crumbled, adding, "The discontent of the people is growing in all the capitalist countries."

"Capitalism will not collapse on its own. To overcome capitalism, the socialist political alternative has to be strengthened. That is the answer to the global crisis and the task before the party is to build the same," he said.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, former chief minister and CPI(M) veteran VS Achuthanandan, CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, state ministers and party MLAs were among those present on the occasion.

A march, in which hundreds of volunteers took part, marked the opening of the celebrations.
