Following alleged mismanagement in selection of candidates for coming civic poll, two more senior Congress leaders have resigned from their respective posts. Those who have resigned are Govind Singh, an ex-Minister in the Digvijay Singh government, who is a sitting MLA from Lahar assembly seat and the other is Prem Chand Guddu, ex-Member of Parliament from Ujjain.
Guddu has resigned on grounds that an accused who is facing charges of supporting banned organization Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) has been selected, while Singh has resigned claiming that a woman candidate for the polls comes from a family whose members are facing murder charges.
Both the senior leaders were holding positions in the Congress as vice president of state unit.Yesterday, a senior leader and vice president of the state unit Manak Agrawal had resigned from his positions on similar grounds. He is learnt to have in parleys with Bharatiya Janata Party.
Agrawal, however has said he would not join any other party. He was manhandled by some ticket aspirants in party's local office. "They have resigned but party's state leaders are in talks with them and will remain in party fold," a party spokesperson said. Both the leaders were not on election committee of the party.
Only Govind Singh's name was added to the committee few days ago.
