Voting machines kept under tight security in Delhi

As many as 11,993 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which hold the fate of 810 candidates in the Delhi assembly polls, have been kept under high security in 14 counting centres across the city, officials said Thursday.

"The EVMs have been kept in 14 centres spread across the city. As many as 900 paratroopers have been stationed around these polling stations for security," Deputy Chief Electoral Officer A.K. Srivastava told IANS.

"Counting will start 8 a.m. Sunday. To avoid tampering, we had immediately shifted the EVMs to the strong rooms. This was done Wednesday night itself when voting ended," said the officer.

Delhi has nine districts and 70 assembly constituencies.

In Wednesday's assembly elections, Delhi registered a record 65.86% voting.
