Yogi Adityanath mockery of Modi's 'inclusive growth' call, bodes ill: CPI-M

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) on Sunday criticised the BJP's decision to make Yogi Adityanath the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and said it does not bode well for the people of the state.

"This choice by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), executed by its political arm the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is a deliberate move which bodes ill for the state," the CPI-M said in a statement.

"The selection of Adityanath has once again exposed the oft-repeated claim of Modi that development will be its main agenda. It makes a mockery of his own slogan 'sabka saath, sabka vikas'," the CPI-M said.

"Adityanath is a known Hindutva fanatic who has a record of inciting communal violence, having a number of criminal cases pending against him. He also espouses extremely casteist views."

JD(U) leader K.C. Tyagi said he was not surprised that the BJP chose to make Adityanath Chief Minister.

"It is very natural. No surprises here. Surprise would be his (Adityanath) not becoming the Chief Minister. We do not expect any good work coming from him," Tyagi told IANS.

The Congress, on the other hand, maintained a more conciliatory attitude and said it will rather wait and watch whether the new incumbent makes good on his promises.

"It's for the BJP to fulfil the promises they made during the campaign. If Adityanath delivers on his promises, working within the Constitution, then we will have no reason to fight with him," Congress spokesperson Ajoy Kumar told IANS.
