WB state highways to be repaired

This was decided at the board meeting of the newly set up West Bengal Highway Development Corporation Ltd here today.

Corporation Chairman Subrata Bakshi said that Rs 50 crore has been earmarked for initial expense.

State highways in North Bengal would be given priority next, Bakshi said.

PWD Minister Sudarshan Ghose Dastidar, Vice-Chairman of the Corporation, said that his department, which earlier maintained state highways, had handed over responsibility to the newly set up corporation.

Out of 19 districts in the state, eleven were included under the Backward Region Grant Fund which received an allocation of Rs 1400 crore from the Centre for development of state highways and other important roads.

An office of the Corporation would be set up at on Council House Street soon, Bakshi said.
