A total of 1,411 persons were penalised and Rs 7,24,382 was collected from them as penalty after Allahabad Chief Commercial Manager Dinesh Tripathi reached the railway station yesterday and conducted a surprise check in the trains, railway police spokesperson said.
The police officials included six inspectors who were fined for travelling in AC and Sleeper coaches, he said, adding, goods which were being transported without any booking were also seized.
CCM Tripathi has said such surprise checks would continue in the wake of festive season which has resulted in over-crowding in trains.
