A person who had allegedly aided the escape of gangster Amit Malik alias Bhoora from the custody of Uttarakhand police was arrested here today by the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
According to Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) SN Shrivastava, the accused, identified as one Ravi, was arrested under Section 41.1 of CrPC and produced in court today where he was remanded to judicial custody for a day.
"He will be handed over to Baghpat police (of Uttar Pradesh) tomorrow by the court," Shrivastava said.
Malik is allegedly involved in dozens of cases of murder, attempt to murder, loot, robbery and kidnapping, he added.
According to police, Malik, who was in Dehradun jail, was taken to Baghpat on December 15 to be produced before a local court in a criminal case when he escaped from police custody.
In the incident which had taken place near the court premises, Malik's accomplices freed him after throwing chilli powder on the police team escorting him while firing several rounds of bullets.
Police teams of several north Indian states have been searching for him since then and two people have already been arrested for facilitating his escape. Ravi is the third person to be nabbed in this connection.
As he escaped, Malik and his accomplices took away two AK-47 rifles along with an SLR from the policemen who were escorting him, police said.
