At least 10 militants were killed and explosives destroyed in fresh airstrikes by Pakistan's security forces as part of a major military offensive against the Taliban in the restive North Waziristan Agency today.
Gunship helicopters targeted militant's hideout in Boya and Digan areas today, according to a military statement.
The army claimed said 10 militants were killed in the shelling, while their hideouts were also destroyed.
The statement said five vehicles, cache of explosive materials and weapons were also destroyed in the shelling.
"Army aviation gunship helicopters struck in area ahead of Boya Degan in North Waziristan," the army said.
"In a precise strike on a terrorist hideout, gunship helicopters destroyed one explosive dump and five vehicles and killed 10 terrorists," it added.
Pakistan launched the all-out military offensive, named operation Zarb-e-Azb, on June 15 to clear insurgent bases from North Waziristan district, near the Afghan border, after a brazen attack on Karachi airport and no headway made to reach a truce with rebels during a faltering peace talks.
Pakistan's army has used air strikes, artillery, mortars and ground troops to retake territory in North Waziristan held by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant outfits.
The conflict zone, off-limits to journalists, near the Afghan border has been a hideout for homegrown and foreign fighters such as Uzbeks and Uighurs.
The army last week had announced that more than 900 militants have killed while it has lost 82 soldiers during the operation so far.
In North Waziristan, 88 km long roads including Khajuri- Mirali-Miranshah-Dattakhel and Road Ghariom-Jhallar have been cleared of militants.
So far security forces have cleared major towns of Miranshah, Mirali, Datta Khel, Boya and Degan, which were considered strong holds of terrorists, it said.
