Ten Tibetans, including six women, were arrested in Nepal today for staging anti-China protests as Tibetan exiles marked the 55th anniversary of the failed uprising in their Himalayan homeland.
Five Tibetans, including four women, were arrested from Naxal area in Kathmandu as they were heading towards the Chinese Consular office at Hattisar, Nepal Police spokesman Ganesh K C said.
Four others, including two women, were arrested from Swoyambhu Stupa, the oldest Buddhist stupa in the outskirts of Kathmandu, he said.
Another Tibetan was arrested from Pokhara, the tourist hub in western Nepal, he told PTI.
Nepal government has tightened security in and around Chinese Embassy, consular office and other sensitive areas to avert any untowards incident as Tibetans observed the 55th anniversary of the failed uprising against the Chinese rule in Tibet.
Despite heavy security, dozens of Tibetans staged protests shouting slogan 'Free Tibet, we want justice' and waving Tibetan flags.
March 10 is observed as 'Revolutionary Day' since 1959 in the memory of the failed Tibetan uprising that led their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to flee to India from his homeland.
Nepal has been pursuing one-China policy, with the government committed not to allow any activity directed against its northern neighbour from its soil.
