Superintendent of Police Mayilvahanan said there was tension in the village that night as two groups, one led by the temple trust and the other led by local body leaders clashed when an Inspector and two others were injured.
Police had registered cases against 51 persons in connection with the clashes and are on the lookout for them.
They had also banned conducting of drama. But despite the ban, it was held, leading to the arrests.
He named those responsible for instigating violence in the village and said severe action would be taken against them if they continued with illegal and anti-Government actions.
Meanwhile the situation in the village was stated tobe normal with the Police guarding sensitive areas including the temple.Temple trustees and local body members who clashed had previous enemity over desilting the temple tank.
