19 quintals of rare medicinal herb seized

Nineteen quintals of banned rare medicinal herb 'Nag Chatri', estimated to be worth over Rs 3 crore, was today seized in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Excise and Taxation Department sleuths intercepted a Punjab-bound truck at the Lakhanpur toll plaza and seized the herb, scientifically known as trillium govanianum, which was packed in gunny bags, officials said.
One person was arrested in this connection.
Meanwhile in Jammu, a smuggler, who hailed from Delhi, was arrested with 14 grams of raw sapphire yesterday.
FIRs have been registered in both the cases and the investigations are on, they said.
