Delhi PWD Minister Satyendra Jain today said the work on two road projects between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad would be completed by end of this year so that people can enjoy hassle-free travel on Outer Ring Road.
Jain today inspected various under-construction projects and announced that work on two projects would be completed by December 31, 2015. He also instructed officials to construct foot-over-bridges to ease traffic movement on Outer Ring Road.
"I inspected an under-construction PWD project between Wazirabad and Swaroop Nagar which got delayed due to land acquisition issue. Locals are resisting demolition of their houses to make way for the road.
"I have decided to use one half of the drain running along the road to erect pillars and construct road over it. So no house will be demolished. I have given a deadline of December 31 to complete this project within the budget of Rs 200 crore," Jain said.
According to the PWD, only eight km of the 12-km project has been completed in the past three years. "We will also make dedicated cycling track on this road as people from unauthorised colonies live alongside this project," Jain said.
The Minister directed the PWD to expedite construction of elevated corridor between Wazirabad and Vikaspuri and ordered to complete the project by December 31.
"I have instructed PWD to assess the scope of building foot-over-bridges (FOBs) between Wazirabad and Mukarba Chowk area. The traffic movement is too fast here and people can't cross the road. So far only three foot-over-bridges (FOBs) have been proposed but I believe we need at least 8-10 bridges on this stretch. The department will conduct a study on feasibility to construct FOBs," Jain said.
The Minister also gave instruction for feasibility study to construct foot-over-bridge between Mukarba Chowk and Delhi border.
"There is no foot-over-bridge here and it practically impossible to cross the road here. So the department will assess the scope of constructing FOBs here," Jain said.
PWD is also planning to make a pedestrian skywalk from the upcoming Mukundpur metro station to Mukundpur colony.
"At presents the distance between the colony to metro station is three-kilometres which will reduced to 700 meters with the skywalk," Jain said.
