Over 250 recruits were today inducted as soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) of the Army after a passing-out parade at Regimental Centre here.
The rigorously trained 256 recruits, hailing from all parts of the state, took the oath to serve the cause of the nation at a ceremony held at Bana Singh Parade Ground in the JAKLI headquarters, Rangreth, a Defence spokesman said.
"Singing their regimental song "Balidanam Veer Lakshnam", the young soldiers inspired one and all as their voice echoed in the Valley," the spokesman said.
The passing-out parade was reviewed by Inspector General of BSF (Srinagar) P S Sandhu and attended by over 2000 relatives, including parents, of the young soldiers along with a number of civil and military dignitaries, the spokesman said.
The IG BSF congratulated the young soldiers for their immaculate parade.
In the investiture ceremony, recruit Azim Malik of Udhampur was awarded the Sher-e-Kashmir Sword of Honour and the Triveni Singh Medal for being adjudged the overall best recruit during the 49 weeks of arduous training.
He was also conferred upon the Maqbool Sherwani Medal for being the Best Recruit in Physical Training, the spokesman said.
