3 arrested on charges of cruelty to animals

Three persons were arrested for allegedly transporting oxen for slaughter, police said today.
During a routine check near Bhaloor village here, police found one dozen oxen in a vehicle which were being taken for slaughtering, police said here.
The cattle were being taken to Jammu for slaughtering, as per preliminary investigation of the police.
Those arrested were identified as Anjju Gujjar, Labha Massih, both residents of Gurdaspur, and Naseem Ali of Jammu.
However, one accused managed to flee from the spot, police said, adding that a case was registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at Baghapurana police station.
