3 criminals escape

the central jail here by creating a hole in one of the walls of their cell and later scaling the boundary wall of the prison, police said.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Police (ADCP) Sushil Kumar said one of the escapees, Ram Jan, who hails from Siwan district in Bihar, was undergoing life imprisonment for his involvement in a train robbery and murder.

The other two -- Ravi Kumar and Amit Kumar -- were undertrials in separate murder cases.

There were six persons in the cell that was broken open but only three could manage to escape, he said.

The escapees had used handle of a bucket and a spoon and improvised it into a rod to dig out the hole in the wall of the cell, Kumar said.

They escaped through this hole in darkness and ran away, the ADCP said.

The police has registered a new case against them and hunt is on to nab them, but no success has been reported so far, he said.
