The Congress Friday demanded longer than the three-day session of the Goa Legislative Assembly convened at the month-end, saying more time is needed to discuss issues of public interest.
Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar of the Congress said the three-day session is not enough to discuss hoards of problems being faced by the people of Goa under the Manohar Parrikar government.
Earlier this week, Governor Mridula Sinha announced that a three-day session of the assembly would be held from January 29.
Kavlekar, who presided over a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), said he would raise the demand of extending the session by at least a week during the upcoming meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the assembly.
"We discussed about the assembly session (in the CLP meeting). The government is taking Goa backwards. They have called for just three day of assembly session," Kavlekar said.
"The first day will be Governors address. So we are left with only two days to table our questions. How can an entire years affairs be summed up within two days?" the senior Congress MLA asked.
The Leader of Opposition said there were no proper sessions during 2018 due to the ill health of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
"Even the budget session was only for 12 days. Last year, the assembly was in session only for 16 days," he added.
Kavlekar said the BJP-led government has convened the assembly session just for the sake of it.
