Acting on a tip-off that four persons involved in circulating fake currency notes were coming to Ahmedabad from Himmatnagar, the police arrested four persons late last night as soon as they entered the city, crime branch inspector K G Chaudhary said.
They were arrested from Chiloda circle on SP Ring Road on city outskirts, he said.
The arrested persons were in possession of fake currency notes of Rs 2,000 denomination with face value of Rs 1.90 lakh, he said.
"One of the four persons is an engineering diploma holder and has knowledge of computer. Upon questioning, they revealed that they were in financial crisis and wanted to make quick money which is why they started printing fake currency notes," Chaudhary said.
They set up a makeshift unit at a farm house in Himmatnagar town using colour printer, cartridge, and papers, and started printing fake currency notes of various denominations like Rs 50, Rs 100, and Rs 2,000 which they managed to circulate in local markets there, Chaudhary said.
