"56 touts were apprehended during the drive carried out by the vigilance wing of Northern Railways along with RPF from October 1 to October 20 at all major locations," a senior Northern Railway official said.
Two touts were found to be carrying 44 general tickets.
They were all prosecuted by the Railway Magistrate under Section 143/144 of the Railways Act, 1989, he said.
Besides, four unauthorised travel agents were apprehended under Section 143 of the Act and prosecuted.
Checks were also carried out at rail premises, including areas near booking counters, platforms, trains, parcel offices and catering units to detect malpractices in these areas.
Besides, 52 unauthorised vendors were also apprehended in the station premises and prosecuted under Section 144 of the Railways Act.
