Fifty-eight child labourers were rescued from different locations, including from a placement agency running under the garb of an NGO, in the national capital on the eve of World Day Against Child Labour.
According to a statement by Bachpan Bacahao Andolan, police rescued the children, including two girls, from various factories engaged in making plastic coolers, fans, polishing and making electric moldings. The two girls had been employed as domestic servants.
The children had been trafficked for forced and bonded labour from the states of West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. They were discovered with skin rashes and wound marks on their bodies.
The children were not allowed to speak to their parents without the permission of their employers and were paid Rs 50- 100 per week as wages. The parents of the children had been paid an advance amount for them.
Deputy Labour Commissioner (North-West) S C Yadav said, "We will keep executing such exercise in future also. The fine of Rs 20,000, as per the direction of Supreme Court will be recovered from each and every erring employer along with all the back wages.
