6 big cats in Palamau Betla Tiger Reserve

There are at least six tigers in the Palamau Betla Tiger Reserve in Jharkhand and the number could increase.
Announcing this, Additional Chief Secretary Indu Sekhar Chaturvedi said that the number was confirmed after DNA test of 54 samples.
To meet water requirement in tiger reserve in summers, old check dams are being renovated while some new check dams are being built, he told a press conference.
Besides, GPS patrolling is being done and the number of forest guards have been increased to enhance security measures, he said.
He said that the compensation for any person dying of animal attack has been increased from Rs 2.5 lakh to 4 lakh while one would get Rs 1 lakh in case of injury.

Nearly 8.56 crore saplings were planted in the 1000 days of the Raghuvar Das government and Rs 718.88 crore was spent on it, he said, adding that new saplings are planted in case the old ones get dried, Chaturvedi said.
He said that plastic carry bags have been banned in Jharkhand.
