7 of 81 nominees in Raj's 2nd phase polling have criminal

Seven of the 81 candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Rajasthan's five constituencies have declared criminal cases against themselves, in affidavits submitted to election department.
One candidate each from Aam Aadmi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, National People's Party and Bahujan Mukti Party, and three Independents have criminal cases against them, according to a report by Rajasthan Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Voting in the five parliamentary constituencies -- Dausa, Tonk-Sawaimadhopur, Alwar, Karauli-Dholpur and Bharatpur -- is slated for April 24.
Candidates who have declared serious criminal cases are Independent candidate from Tonk-Sawaimadhopur Makkhan, BSP candidate from Dausa seat Chandulal Meena and AAP candidate from Bharatpur Gopal Paharia and Bahujan Mukti Party candidate from Alwar Khoob Raj Neeraj.
"As many 21 candidates in the five constituencies are 'crorpatis'," Kamal Tank, coordinator of the Rajasthan Election Watch, said today.
Four candidates each of BJP, Congress and BSP, and one candidate of AAP have assets worth over Rs 1 crore. The average worth of assets per candidate contesting in the second phase in Rajasthan is Rs 3.83 crore, he said.
As many as 12 candidates have declared assets of more than Rs 3 crore. Top three candidates with highest assets are BSP candidate from Dausa Chandu Lal Meena (above Rs 121 crore), BJP candidate from Tonk-Sawaimadhopur Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria (above Rs 71 crore) and Independent candidate from Dausa Shivpal Singh Gujjar (above Rs 25 crore), he said.
Out of 81 candidates, seven candidates have declared assets less than Rs 1 lakh. Candidates with lowest assets include Independent candidate from Alwar Ramesh Ranaval with assets worth Rs 16,000.
Altogether 319 candidates are there in Lok Sabha elections in both phases of polling in the state's 25 seats.
Polling in first phase in 20 seats took place on April 17 and the remaining five are going to poll on April 24.
"In total, 21 out of 319 candidates in both the phases have declared criminal cases against them and nine of them have serious cases lodged against them. As many as 92 candidates have assets worth Rs 1 crore and above," the report stated.
