Superintendent of Police of Birbhum Rasid Munir Khan said "a man was reportedly attacked by a mob yesterday died on the way to hospital. A compliant has been lodged against eight persons. We have started investigation."
The CPI(M) claimed that the deceased Hiralal Seikh (37) was an active party supporter.
The family members of Seikh claimed that a clash broke out yesterday between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) workers at Haraipur village, on the outskirts of Suri.
Seikh was shifted to Suri Hospital but doctors there advised the family to shift him to some better place. On the way to Kolkata Seikh succumbed to his injuries, family sources said.
The family member of Seikh claimed that they have lodged a police complaint against eight TMC supporters for killing Seikh.
