Seven men, allegedly members of a gang of robbers which worked like an organized crime syndicate where every member has a specific role - from spotter to manager -have been arrested and stolen goods worth 10 lakh was recovered from them, police said today.
As per police, Shubham Choudhary, Mohd Adnan, Budhi Ram, Babloo, Murari, Raj Kumar and Rajeev Upadhyay were arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi police yesterday after it received a tip-off that the gang will gather at A-Block, Ramgarh, Jahangir Puri area to shares of stolen goods kept in a rented godown.
The gang indulges in burglaries in shops and godowns burglaries in broad daylight acting as the owner of the goods being stolen. They first identified a godown for burglary, prepared duplicate keys of target warehouse and then steal the goods. They sometimes used to commit small thefts so that their crime goes undetected, police said.
"During interrogation, they revealed that they were working as an organised crime syndicate having specific tasks assigned to each member. Right from identifying the godown to be burgled, making duplicate keys of the godown, then hiring tempo/workforce for transportation, storage and disposal of stolen goods," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.
Every member of the gang has a specific role. Mohd Adnan, a tall handsome guy, acts as the godown owner/manager, Shubham keeps records of the goods. Rajeev, Budhi Ram and others work as loaders while Shivam Chaudhary and Rajkumar were the receivers, said Yadav.
During interrogation, the gang allegedly disclosed their involvement in more than a dozen thefts/burglaries in Inderlok, Roshanara Road, Sadar Bazar, Sant Nagar and Burari areas, police said.
They further disclosed that they usually target big godowns where the goods are in huge quantity. They prepare the duplicate keys after targeting and godown and then keep siphoning off goods until it is noticed or the locks are changed. Since the stolen goods are mostly of Chinese make, they easily get buyers for these goods, police said.
"The gang members never used their own vehicle to avoid detection. They kept changing vehicles to transport stolen goods from the source to destination. Also, they offload the goods in between and change the vehicle in order to avoid identification," said Yadav.
Police have recovered 222 big cartons of gift items like idols, fancy lamps, fancy mugs, collage frame, one carton of umbrella and a tool kit with numerous keys.
