The state government today said that it would take necessary steps against those found guilty of torturing a woman in Birbhum district's Ilambazar.
"I have spoken to the SP Birbhum and he has called for his additional SP and an enquiry has been initiated into it," West Bengal Minister for Women and Child Development Sashi Panja told PTI on the sidelines of a programme here.
"A case has been registered against them as per the names which the victim has mentioned. So the enquiry is on let's see what comes out of it. And whoever is guilty of having done whatever has been done because there are some names coming up and that will be looked into by the state administration," she added.
Enquired about the tortured woman's health the minster said: "I have spoken to the medical officer and they are looking into it."
Incidentally, a SI was removed from regular duty following an interim report of investigation submitted by Additional SP Ananda Roy.
A woman, stated to be the relative of a BJP activist wanted in connection with a bomb attack case, had filed charges of forcibly being taken to police station by cops following a raid at her Ilambazar residence in Birbhum district yesterday.
