Aditi Ashok got into the right frame of mind a week ahead of her title defence of the Hero Women's Indian Open, as she fired 5-under 67 to place herself one shot off the lead at the end of the first round of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open here.
The leader, Lee-Anne Pace, holds a one-stroke lead after firing a 66.
Aditi carded a bogey-free 67 as she shared the second spot with five other players -- Florentyna Parker, Isi Garba, Jenny Haglund, Marianne Skarpnord and Amy Boulden.
There are three other Indians in the field, but only Vani Kapoor had a decent day with an even par 72 and is placed T- 55, while Amandeep Drall was way down after a round of 76 and Neha Tripathi shot 82.
Lee-Ann Pace, a nine-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, birdied six of her first 11 holes at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and had one blemish at the 16th, but recovered with a birdie on 18.
Beth Allen, the defending champion, chipped in for birdie on 18 in a round of 73 and is seven strokes from the lead in 76th position.
Pace's most recent victory on the LET came at the 2014 South African Women's Open, the same year that she won the Blue Bay LPGA in China.
