AIMPLB alleges threat to Muslim and other religious faiths

Alleging that there is a threat to Muslim and other religious faiths, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today said it will conduct a nation-wide campaign to "save" the religion and the Indian Constitution.
"India is a secular democratic country. Indian Constitution guarantees religious freedom. Now there is a threat to the Muslim faith and culture, as efforts are being made to impose a particular religious culture by way of yoga, Surya Namaskar, Vande Mataram," Moulana Khaleel ur Rehman Sajjad Numani and other leaders of AIMPLB said here today.
Claiming that there are efforts to amend and change the laws, they said in a statement that the alleged attempts may affect the Muslim personal laws.

Without naming the NDA government, they alleged that "communalism" is growing with the support of those in power and that it will have an adverse effect not only on "Muslim community" but other religious and cultural streams.
"The communal forces are upbeat with the support of people at the helm of affairs. The growing communalism is not only a danger to the Muslim community but also it will have an adverse effect on other religious, cultural, social fabrics. This communalism will hamper the growth and well being of the people," the statement said.
Alleging that there is a "threat to the basic spirit of the Constitution", it said the Board would conduct a nation-wide campaign to raise mass awareness.

"Keeping in mind this alarming situation, All Indian Muslim Personal Law Board has given a call 'Deen and Dastur Bachao' (save religion - save Constitution). The Board is conducting the nation-wide campaign with public meetings, seminars and symposiums and try to bring mass awareness," it said.
Various religious, cultural, social organizations and personalities from the "depressed classes" would be part of the campaign, it added.
