People in Chennai will be able to enjoy All India Radio's (AIR) popular Vividh Bharati service without noise and distortions even on their mobile phones and stereos as the public broadcaster is set to launch it on FM mode.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore will inaugurate a dedicated FM transmitter for Vividh Bharati in Chennai tomorrow.
People will listen to the services without noise and distortions even on their mobile phones and stereos.
An official statement released here said that commercial channel in Chennai was operating on 20 KW Medium Wave transmitter, now a dedicated 10 KW FM transmitter has been installed.
"Availability of Vividh Bharati on FM will increase the scope of the channel. The light entertainment channel of the Public Service Broadcaster will be accessed on mobile devices and car stereos, thus reaching out even to those who are on move," the statement added.
AIR said that with switch over to FM mode, the aim is to cover 60 per cent of the population of the country and this is being done in a phased manner.
Out of 37 Vividh Bharati channels, 32 have a dedicated FM transmitter. Once Vividh Bharati in Chennai starts the service on FM Mode, the count will be 33, the statement said.
