BJP leader and former union minister Swami Chinmayanand today accused Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi of "patronising" Maoists and said had he continued in power, "today the state would have been under the clutches of Naxals".
"If the BJP had not come to the power in 2003 in Chhattisgarh, today the state would have been under the clutches of Naxals and Christian missionaries," the former union minister said.
"Former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi was patronising Naxals and Christian missionaries during his rule (2000-03)... The state would have been facing the insurgency problem like the north-eastern states (had Yogi continued)," he said.
Over the JNU row, Chinmayanand said the university was being used for "anti-national activities".
"I do not blame students for this. An ideology which was rejected by the voters is misusing these students. Communists are trying to sow the seeds of poison in the country," he said.
He also took a dig at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his support to JNU students.
On the controversy surrounding chanting of "Bharat mata ki jai", the BJP leader said he regretted AIMIM leader Assaduddin Owaisi's remark but noted that the country never takes such statements seriously.
