Though opposition BJP and BSP have claimed that most of these projects are far from completion, the Chief Minister has been inaugurating one project after another for almost a month, and today was no exception.
He began the day with a function at his official residence where he inaugurated hospitals, housing projects, swimming pools, a hockey stadium, roads and infrastructure across several districts, educational institutions and bus stations.
Similar is the state of the much-publicised Lucknow Metro project. Though work is going on at a fast pace, it will be months before the metro's doors can be thrown open to the public.
However, this did not prevent the Chief Minister, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and others to go ahead with its inauguration earlier this month.
The Model Code of Conduct will come into force in the poll-bound state, with immediate effect, as soon as the Election Commission announces poll schedule preventing government to launch or announce new projects.
Alleging all schemes of the state government smacked of corruption, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Vijay Goel said, "To beat EC deadline, Akhilesh is launching incomplete projects."
But, the Chief Minister is unfazed by allegations of inaugurating incomplete projects.
"We are doing it now so that people are reminded of our efforts and commitment for development in the state, he said.
BJP state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak claimed, "The Samajwadis know they are losing the elections and hence this race for inaugurations."
"Governments are judged on their overall performance. Race for inauguration reflects on lack of confidence on part of Akhilesh," Congress spokesperson Devendra Pratap Singh said.
