Anish Kapoor installation features in upcoming Mumbai auction

Mumbai-born British Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor's installation is among a range of modern and contemporary Indian art works coming up for auction here.
The large concave stainless steel installation by the world renowned artist Kapoor has been estimated to fetch between Rs 4 to Rs 6 crores (USD 588,240 - USD 882,355) at Saffronart's Evening Sale on February 24.
The live 80-lot auction includes masterpieces by Modern and Contemporary Indian artists including Manjit Bawa, Tyeb Mehta, V S Gaitonde, M F Husain, Bharti Kher, Subodh Gupta and Rameshwar Broota among others.
A preview of the sale was conducted at the India Art Fair last month in New Delhi.
"We are proud to present a carefully curated collection of exceptional works by the Masters at various price points. This should be appealing to new and seasoned collectors alike, Hugo Weihe, CEO, Saffronart said.
The top lot of the upcoming sale is a 1971 painting by Vasudeo Gaitonde estimated to fetch a price of Rs 6 to Rs 8 crores (US D 882,355-USD 1,176,480), which auctioneers have said is "a great price point for new collectors."

the development of his emotive figures lost within fields of colours is estimated to fetch Rs 4 crores to Rs 5 crores (USD 588,240 - USD 735,295).
Another work by Mehta is a pencil on paper 'Head' estimated to fetch Rs 18 lakh to Rs 22 lakh ( US 26,475 - US 32,355).
An oil on canvas by Manjit Bawa (1992) features on the cover of the printed catalogue of the auction with the painting estimated to fetch between Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore (USD 294,120 - USD 441,180).
There are four other works by Bawa in the auction - three oils on canvas and one ink on paper.
Rameshwar Broota's 2002 oil on canvas work 'Blast in Silence' which exemplifies the fragility of the human condition juxtaposed against a highly technological and industrialised world is estimated to fetch between Rs 2.75 crore to Rs 3.5 crore (USD 404,415 - USD 514,710).
Other significant lots include paintings by M F Husain, F N Souza, S H Raza, Jehangir Sabavala, Bharti Kher and Subodh Gupta.
While the catalogue can be viewed on the auction house's website, collectors would be able to place a bid physically at in auction room, on the phone, online, through the MobileApp, or by submitting absentee or proxy bids, and by viewing a live video webcast of the auction on the website and mobile devices.
