Anomalies in Nagaland medical sector

Non-existence of a medical council in Nagaland for the past 52 years since its statehood had encouraged anomalies in the sector in the state, president of the newly constituted Nagaland Medical Council(NMC) L M Murry said today.
Speaking to newsmen. He said several doctors in the state claim to be specialists without actually possessing the degree, while many others who serve in the government hsopital and avail non-practicing allowance are engaged in private hospitals.
Besides, there are many private hospitals and clinics in Nagaland which call themselves research organisations to avail grants without the approval of Indian Council of Medical Research, he said.

The Council was established in January this year after the state assembly passed NMC Act in April 2014, Murry said adding every allopathic practitioner, both government and private were required to register themselves with the council in order to to practice.
NMC, he said, would enforce the Code of Ethics for modern medicine practitioners as laid down by Medical Council of India.
