"Power Grid Corporation (PGCIL), KPTL and Sterlite Grid have submitted financial bids for Maheshwaram transmission project today," an REC Transmission Projects Company Ltd official said.
The bids for Maheshwaram project is being handled by the REC Transmission Projects Company (RECTPC) Ltd, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rural Electrification Corporation.
RECTPC has been entrusted the responsibility of selection of developer for number of inter-state transmission projects.
The official said that as many as six bidders including Essel, CLP and a consortium of Tata & Tata Realty had qualified the technical bids for the project.
However, later only three bidders turned up with their financial bids for the project, he added.
The Maheshwaram project is 258km 400KV double circuit transmission project.
About the cost of the project, he said: "The cost of the project would be decided after the bidding of the project. The main purpose of bidding of transmission project is to reduce the project cost compared to benchmarks in the industry."
However, the industry sources said that the project would be worth around Rs 400 crore.
Earlier this week, six companies, including Power Grid Corp, Adani Power and Sterlite Grid, have submitted financial bids for three power transmission projects worth Rs 3,662 crore.
These power transmission projects are Chhattisgarh A, Chhattisgarh B and Sipat.
The four projects are part of government's plan to auction transmission projects worth over Rs 1 lakh crore via a competitive bidding process during this fiscal.
