Another petition challenges ban on bull slaughter in Maha

A petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court challenging the ban on slaughter of bulls and bullocks and consumption and possession of their meat under Maharashtra Animals Preservation (Amendment) Act.
The petitioner Shaikh Zahid Mukhtar, a resident of Thane, has sought permission to slaughter bulls and bullocks and a ruling declaring the amended law as unconstitutional.
Two other petitions challenging the controversial ban, imposed by the BJP-led government are pending before the HC.
Feroze Ansari, Mukhtar's lawyer, mentioned the petition before the division bench of Justices A S Oka and Revati Mohite-Dere today, seeking early hearing as Bakri-Eid festival is coming up.

The judges asked when was Bakri-Eid. When advocate Ansari said it was on September 25, the judges said it was still two months away.
The petition will come up for hearing in due course.
It prays that the amended law be declared as violative of fundamental rights, irrational and unconstitutional.
It also alleges that the government, "in connivance with certain class of citizens," brought in the amendment "to harass and violate the fundamental right of the petitioner and his community members.
