Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Wednesday hit back at BJP leader Anurag Thakur for terming Rahul Gandhi's Mansarovar a "farce" and claimed the Hamirpur MP was trying to divert attention from real issues.
On Tuesday, Thakur had in a tweet to Congress president Gandhi alleged that his visit to Mansarovar was a farce and referred to a controversial social media post by a former Congress MLA.
Thakur slammed a Facebook post by former Congress legislator Neeraj Bharti on the occassion of Janmashtami, drawing Gandhi's attention to the "anti-Hindu" sentiment displayed there.
"Neeraj Bharti is currently not even any office-bearer of Congress. He was the MLA from Jawali Assembly segment in 2012 and also remained chief parliamentary secretary during Virbhadra Singh led previous Congress government. He might have uploaded those posts in his personal capacity. If he had made any objectionable post, the party will look into it as he is our worker," Sukhu told PTI.
Sukhu, however, accused Thakur of diverting attention from real issues.
"He has not done anything remarkable for his Hamirpur constituency. That is why he is trying to divert the attention of general public by tweeting Rahul," Sukhu said adding the public would respond accordingly in the coming general elections.
Sukhu also alleged that Thakur had tried to get undue publicity by tweeting to the Congress president and terming his Mansarovar yatra a "farce".
Former Congress MLA from Jawali Neeraj Bharti's post on Janmashtmi had carried an illustration from the story of Krishna watching 'gopis' bathe in the Yamuna with a question: "Aaj Iska Janmadin Hai Kya" (Is today his birthday?).
