The apex body of Naga community - Ao Senden has decided to temporarily suspend its ongoing Assam-Nagaland road blockade in Nagaland's Mokokchung district from tomorrow.
This decision was taken during the presidential council meeting of the Ao Senden held today in Mokokchung considering the positive response from the Government of Nagaland and with written assurance regarding the fulfilment of five-point charter of demands of the Ao Senden, and subsequent joint representation by Kyong Hoho and Ao Senden to the State Government.
Ao Senden president Sangyu Yaden and secretary Tsupong Longchar in a press release, however, cautioned that if the state government does not fulfill its commitment, the Senden will restart its agitation with renewed vigour and intensity.
The Ao Senden has been imposing bandh on this side of the Assam-Nagaland border since May 25 demanding seriousness of both the state governments in resolving the border dispute.
Meanwhile, an official bulletin this evening said a team of Ministers representing the Government of Nagaland had met the Ao Senden at Mokokchung yesterday.
The four-member ministerial team led by state Home Minister G Kaito Aye during the meeting with the Ao Senden "admitted" the lapses on the part of government and requested them to solve the problem diplomatically and not by resorting to violence, the bulletin said.
The team said the government is trying its best to fulfill the long pending demand for construction of foothill road from Tizit in Mon district to Dimapur without crossing into Assam.
They assured that as demanded by the Ao Senden more police outpost would be considered in the border areas while permanent police outpost would be there at Saring village.
They also informed that the Chief Minister of Nagaland would meet the Chief Minister of Assam and discuss the border related issues as soon as the latter returns from his tour from abroad.
