'Architects should follow norms to help build resilient homes'

Architects, builders and insurance companies should follow appropriate norms and procedures to help home owners build disaster resilient houses, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said today.
Addressing a workshop on 'Risk Governance and Investing in Resilience', Mehrishi said such a initiative was required for the benefit of the people and the society.
"Architects and builders, including insurance companies, should follow appropriate norms and procedure to help the home owners build disaster resilient houses," he said.
The National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) organised the workshop.
India will host the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) from November 3 to November 5 in New Delhi.

This will be the first major inter-governmental event after the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) held in Sendai, Japan, last year that adopted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR).
The event saw the participation of prominent speakers from across the country who deliberated on the issues related to Risk Governance and Investing in resilience.
The major themes on the agenda were: Ten Years of Implementation of the Disaster Management Act, 2005; Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction; Financing Disaster Risk Reduction, Response and Recovery; Risk Financing; and Regulating the Built Environment.
