Arunachal CM announces ex-gratia for those killed on Jan 29

The Arunachal Pradesh Government has announced ex-gratia payment of Rs 3 lakh each for those killed and Rs 50 thousand each to the seriously injured in the Tarasso incident on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki convened a high level meeting at his office here yesterday and ordered that the grant be placed at the disposal of the Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner for disbursement.
The meeting was attended by the chief secretary, DGP and the state's Advocate General, official sources said here today.
On January 29, 10 CPI(ML) supporters were killed and eight others injured when unidentified persons from Arunachal Pradesh attacked the CPI(ML) men at Chaulduha in Assam's Sonitpur district near the inter-state border.

After the killings a number of organisations in Assam have started an indefinite blockade of Arunachal Pradesh in protest against the killing.
Tuki appealed the Union Home Minister to depute a team of senior officers of the ministry for on spot inspection with the district administrations of Assam and Arunachal.

He also requested the ministry to entrust investigation to an Independent agency while appealing the people of both the states to maintain peace and tranquillity, sources said.
Meanwhile, representatives of Krishti Kendras of Itanagar and Naharlagun and Namghars of Nirjuli on behalf of the Assamese community residing in Arunachal Pradesh, have called on the chief minister here last evening.

"This is a singular incident of grave violence and will be treated with contempt by the government and law will take its own course. No one found guilty will be spared," Tuki assured them.
Citing the close association of the people of Assam and Arunachal, the chief minister said contributions of Assamese community in the evolution and development of Arunachal Pradesh cannot be measured and asserted that he personally has highest regards for the Assamese people, particularly the teachers of early days, who shaped the future of the state.
Tuki informed the Assamese representatives that the government was doing all efforts to diffuse the tension created by the incident and has even announced ex-gratia payment to the deceased and the injured besides calling for an independent enquiry, sources said.

Appreciating the chief minister's gesture, the Assamese representatives appealed various organisations based in Assam to lift the economic blockade against Arunachal Pradesh on humanitarian ground and to resolve the issue amicably.
