As monsoon retreats, mercury shows upward trends in N India

Mercury registered an upward trend across north India today with monsoon retreating from the region.
Delhiites experienced a sultry day with day temperature settling above normal level and humidity soaring high.
The maximum temperature settled a notch above normal at 35.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25.6 degrees.
Yesterday, the maximum settled at 34.6 degrees Celsius.
According to the MeT department, the city received "nil" rainfall today. High level of humidity, which oscillated between 50 and 86 per cent during the day, caused discomfort to people in the capital.
In Punjab and Haryana, maximum temperatures hovered above normal levels in different parts, with weather conditions remaining dry.

The Union Territory of Chandigarh registered a maximum of 34.4 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal level, as compared to 33.6 degrees yesterday.
According to the MeT department, Haryana's Ambala, Hisar and Karnal recorded maximums at 34.1, 36.6 and 36.6 degrees as compared to yesterday's 33.4, 36 and 33.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In neighbouring Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximums at 34.2, 33 and 32 degrees Celsius.
