Assembly resolution urges Centre to name BIA after Kempe Gowda

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar moved the resolution urging the Civil Aviation Ministry to accept the proposal after which the house adopted it unanimously.
Earlier too similar demands were made after the airport became operational and there were suggestions that it be named after 12th century social reformer Basaveswara.
However, the Centre decided to retain the first greenfield airport in the city built in joint venture as BIA.
Kempe Gowda was a feudatory ruler under the Vijayanagara Empire in the 16th century. He is considered the founder of Bangalore.
