With a BJP parliamentary team set to visit Sandeskhali in North 24 Parganas tomorrow to assess the situation after a clash broke out between saffron party and Trinamool Congress workers earlier this week, the party today said that attacks on partymen would not be tolerated.
"No one should take the visit of our party's parliamentary team visit lightly. The message is loud and clear. We will not tolerate attacks on our party workers," BJP's co-in-charge of party affairs in West Bengal Siddharth Nath Singh told PTI.
BJP Vice-Presidents and MPs SS Ahluwalia and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi along with national party spokesperson and New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi, will be part of the team, as also Singh.
Asked whether the parliamentary team would recommend visit by a central government team, Singh said, "Lets see. That depends on the outcome of our visit. The parliamentary team will report back to party president Rajnath Singh, who is also the Union Home minister."
The other member of the team was newly-elected MP from Asansol, Babul Supriyo.
The team after arriving here tomorrow will head for Sandeshkhali to assess the situation.
Three persons were arrested on May 28 in connection with the clash at Sandeshkhali between BJP and TMC supporters which had left several BJP and some CPI(M) workers injured.
The BJP and CPI(M) had observed a 12-hour long bandh in the area yesterday.
State BJP president Rahul Sinha, who had earlier pitched for a visit by a central government team, said that the BJP wanted to give time to the state government to take action.
"We spoke to the state Chief Secretary and have been assured that steps will be taken. So we want to wait and watch what steps are taken," Sinha said.
The state unit held a brainstorming session during the day in the presence of Siddharth Nath Singh, to chalk out a plan of action before the next municipal polls in 2015 and assembly polls in 2016.
